Shasta County CWPP Update

Shasta County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

Firefighters managing a controlled burn in a forest.

The Western Shasta RCD (WSRCD) is facilitating the update of the Shasta County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The last plan for the county was completed by the WSRCD in 2016. The new CWPP is being updated with the help of GIS Consultants Deer Creek Resources. The process of updating the plan will consist of the consultants collecting data on local fire history, fuels reduction projects, and vegetation composition. They will consult with fire professionals and land managers on what fuels projects are planned, what projects are needed, and which areas are priority for receiving treatment. A series of public outreach meetings will also be conducted with the help of the Shasta County Fire Safe Council (SCFSC) to gather community input on what projects local residents want to see happen and where.

Public meetings are being planned for this fall. Stay tuned for more information on public meeting dates and details.
