North Cow Creek - Bella Vista Water District Fish Passage Project

North Cow Creek Fish Passage Project  successfully implemented in September 2023.

Structure removal in progress. Stream flow has been diverted around the worksite in the left bypass channel.
Excavator demolishing the barrier structure.

Western Shasta RCD, with grant funding from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), successfully removed Bella Vista Water District's pipe crossing across North (aka Little) Cow Creek to restore unimpeded fish passage for chinook Salmon and Steelhead. The project is located directly downstream of the Swede Creek Road Bridge over North Cow Creek in Palo Cedro, CA. This fisheries restoration project demolished and removed the concrete-encased pipe from North Cow Creek, as the structure was no longer needed by Bella Vista Water District.

This is a collaborative effort with help and regulatory oversight from CDFW, Bella Vista Water District, Bureau of Reclamation, NOAA Fisheries, Central Valley Water Quality Control Board, US Army Corps of Engineers, Central Valley Flood Protection Board, Shasta County Public Works, and the adjacent landowners.
