Work is underway on Phase 1 of the I-5 Corridor Fuels Reduction Project. This is a partnership with the USFS Shasta Lake Ranger District, funded through a Cal Fire Forest Health Grant. For this phase of work, private crews will hand cut and pile hazardous fuels across approximately 874 Acres of Shasta Lake Ranger District Land.  Phase 1 is expected to be complete in Fall 2024.

This is the first phase of a five-year effort to complete fuels reduction across approximately 3,000 acres.

Funding for USFS I-5 Corridor Forest Health Project Phase I was provided by CAL FIRE’s Forest Health Program, as part of California Climate Investments. California Climate Investments, a statewide program that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing GHG emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment– particularly in disadvantaged communities. The Cap-and-Trade program also creates a financial incentive for industries to invest in clean technologies and develop innovative ways to reduce pollution.
California Climate Investments projects include affordable housing, renewable energy, public transportation, zero-emission vehicles, environmental restoration, more sustainable agriculture, recycling, and much more. At least 35 percent of these investments are located within and benefiting residents of disadvantaged communities, low-income communities, and low-income households across California.
